AWESOME

So i've been wicked lazy and caught up in trying to catch up with all the school work that i don't do, but now i am free again so i will be trying to stick to weekly posts.

For right now, i just found an amazing site that has information on a ton of bands that are pretty awesome.

Wikipedia

I just found this site like five minutes ago and already found a ton of info on awesome, not-so-popular bands with everything from past members to the equipment that they use.

So i just thought that was cool and wanted to let everyone who reads this know about it.

I will probably be doing a post later tonight on underoath and then a few more in the next couple days on bands such as the fall of troy (amazinggggggg), converge, beloved and a few others that i cant think of at the moment.

Jacks Mannequin

Hi. Im Jeremiah, and this is my writing debut. I thought for a while who i would write about, and i chose Jacks Mannequin. So here goes...

Im sure a lot of you have heard of Something Corporate. If you are familiar with Something Corporate then you are familiar with Andrew McMahon. Joining the band while he was still in high school, he started touring full time with Something Corporate. But four years of touring and writing with Something Corporate got to be a little bit draining. After playing some shows in Australia with the Offspring, McMahon came back to the states tired, mainly of his beard and long hair. So he shaved his head and beard, and began writing for his debut album with Jacks Mannequin.

After he finished writing a good ammount of songs, he was ready to assemble a band and start recording. The band he picked consists of Bobby Anderson on guitar and vocals, Jaques Brautbar also on guitar and vocals, and Jon Sullivan on bass. With a solid line up set, it was time to start recording. "All of the songs have a very spontaneous continuity to them. We got really good at recording a song in a day."

The album was produced by McMahon and Something Corporate producer Jim Wirt. Jim Wirt also contributed bass and guitar parts. But there was still the need for someone to play drums on the record. After a phone call from Tommy Lee, he ends up recording all the drum parts for the record. When Tommy called McMahon, he told him that he was a fan and that he would do the drums. McMahon returned the favor and co-wrote two songs on Tommy's latest solo record." I've never encountered anyone like him. He's pure energy- this incredibly enthusiastic, sweet man who just adores music."

The album was finished and given the title "Everything in Transit". If you dont have this cd, or havent listened to Jacks Mannequin, I strongly suggest you go pick up a copy.

Once the record was finished, Jay McMillan entered the band and Jacks Mannequin were ready to hit the stage. They made their debut at the famous South by Southwest. They played a good show and recieved a positive response from the crowd.

But lets back track a little bit. While the mastering was going on for "Everything in Transit", McMahon recieved word from his doctor that he had contracted Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. This put shows on hold and it was time for McMahon to recover.

After treatment and a full recovery, Andrew McMahon was ready to start playing shows again with Jacks Mannequin.

If you go on the bands website, the intro says "This is a story...". If you sit down and take the time to really listen to the album, youll realize that it does tell you a story. It tells you about McMahons life over a year.

I hope you enjoy this article thing.

Rooney

I just wrote a giant post about this awesome pop/rock band called Rooney. I have been obsessed with them for over a week. I finished the entry up, it was real good and lengthy. My browser crashed while I was getting the direct link for the file. So I'll just be real general.

  • They label their music Rock/Alt/Indie. They could also be called Pop/Rock. They are a 5 piece band formed in '99.
  • Their debut album, off of Geffen Records, called "Popstars" is from 2003. Their lyrics were hostile to popstars.
  • This is not "hostile" music. There is a strong melody and a excellent melody. The lyrics are all clear.
  • My favorite song off "Popstars" is "Stay Away". It has been stuck in my head for at least 3 days.
  • The lyrics and sound is very happy and perky. These guys are still rock and roll though.
  • There is something almost classic about Rooney, if you like The Beach Boys, and 60's music- You'll like Rooney.
  • If Death Metal music is your life then Rooney is the bane of your existence.
  • The supplied download is from their forthcoming spring album called "Sophmore".
You'll just have to listen to understand.

Project Pandora

Project Pandora, which is part of the Music Genome Project is one of the most amazing sites on the net.

Anyone who wants to listen to any song they want whenever they want FOR FREE,without getting arrested, will absolutly adore this website.

I had been having a problem lately with finding new bands that were like bands that I am in love with now. I needed more content. Purevolume doesn't cut it when you need reccomendations based on the music you already listen to, and we all know that you can't rely on genre. Secondly, any dead cat can get on Purevolume. If you're only interested in bands that are long dead and that no one has ever heard of, ever- This is not the solution for you. You should also face that there is little for you at all, when it comes to legal music solutions in the digital age.

Project Pandora is a flash based application. It is rediculously easy to use. My father really likes it. You start off by entering a band name and it will play content from that band, and content from similar bands. This also works with individual songs.

But don't expect your playlists to be completly correct either. While testing it out, I was listening to "He Is Legend". It creates a playlist of "He Is Legend" and similar bands. It ended up throwing Metallica in there which I wasn't too happy about.

But you see, this is where it really shines. Project Pandora is a community of listeners. In this new project, they grouped bands together for these playlists by genres and other wide factors. If you get some irrelivant results in with your playlist, all you have to do is vote it down and kick it out of that band's playlist. It will take it out of that playlist from now on, and other people wont hear it when they look for what you did. They then try to put it somewhere more appropriate. You can also add things to the playlists if you think a band is similair to another. It's an amazing system.

This little flash app has user accounts and a favorites system as well, so it isn't back to the drawing board each time you visit.

You're probably asking, "Corey, services like napster let you stream any music you like via their service for a minimal fee, how does pandora offer the same for free?"

Services like Napster have you pay for streaming to follow the copyright laws (along with collecting some revenue). At first glance, it looks like Pandora is illegal. In fact, it is barely legal.

According to a friend, The Music Genome project appeased the record companies by popping in links to allow the user to legally download and own the song you're listening to, through Itunes. Also, to avoid the legal controversy about on demand music retrevial, the project might not give you what you want as the first item on the playlist.

Just a hint, skip a few tracks forward. It's always there.

So please, check this website out. I'm not trying to sell you, and no they're not paying me. I think you'll be very pleased, and if you're at all worried about getting sued by the pitiful powerful RIAA, this is the solution (as of now) for you.

I'll be adding to the sidebar of the website for the future.

New Team Member

Welcome our new team member, pending some administrative hoo-haa. He filled out his job application very nicely. Let's see what he has to offer. (Besides a face that only a mother or an inmate could love) Look at him.

Expect to see a few entries from Jeremiah coming up soon.
